What is the Smart head?
This is an electronic controller used for the automatic command of all pump functions. With its small size and simple assembling operation on a water pump it avoids the complex mounting of the traditional accessories (pressure tank, pressure switch, retaining valve etc.). Advantages include: constant pressure and flow of water, pump protection system to avoid the pump dry running, avoids surges in the system, simple installation and silent functioning.

What information does one need to determine the right size pump?

To determine the right size pump you must know the voltage, system load (GPM), pipe size, vertical lift, horizontal run, number and type of fittings, and back pressure at the discharge point, if any. Additionally, you must determine whether a single or dual pump operation is desired, how the pump is to be controlled, and if it is an indoor or outdoor application.

How can one prevent pump burnout?

One must make sure that the pump is sized properly and the voltage powering the pump is rated the same as the pump and sufficient to handle the load. Do not use extension cords. Make sure the temperature of the liquid being pumped is within the rating of the pump. Finally, make sure that the system head is at least the minimum head that the pump is rated at. If your pump is pumping at a low or negative head you will be overloading the motor with each duty cycle and shorten the service life of the pump.

Do the local authorities approve your tanks?
The Trinidad & Tobago Beureau of Standards (TTBS) approves all our water tanks while certain sizes of septic tanks are approved by the Water and Sewerage Authority of Trinidad & Tobago (WASA).

(Our TUFF TANKS by Rotoplastics are manufactured using a two-part system of prime grade lineal polyethylene layers approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the U.S.A. (F.D.A.) for food and water storage.)

Can your water tanks be repaired?
Plastic welding is used for repairing tanks by our technicians and can be done on site or at the factory location.

Can I install the septic tanks and digesters myself?

These can be installed using the installation directions provided here

What are the benefits of water softening?
img- Reduces scaling in pipes, water heater, dishwasher saving on electricity costs
img- Better use of soaps
img- Reduces spotting and soap scum in the bathroom, faucets, fixtures, and on dishware.
img- Improves water heater efficiency, saves power.

Does the Scalewatcher unit affect the drinking water?
Water remains chemically unchanged, retaining the beneficial minerals and tastes the same

Where should the Scalewatcher unit be installed?
The ideal place is on the rising main so all the water that enters the house is treated. But if necessary it can be fitted further up the system.

How often should I change my filters?
img-Anti-bacterial- every 12 months
img-Activated Carbon- every 3-4 months (when taste/odor returns or water pressure drops)
img-Wound mesh- every 3-4 months or when drop in water pressure noticed
img-Washable net- washable and reusable

How often should I service my pump?
It is recommended that your pump should be checked & serviced at least once a year.

Where should I install my pump - inside or outside my house?
Outside your house is usually the preferred choice & it is advisable that you protect your pump from the elements & thieves. If you install your pump inside your house, the possibility arises that your home can sustain water damage.

What is the purpose of a pressure tank?
A pressure tank is a vessel that stores water under pressure to help automate your pump system. Without it your pump will click on and off constantly.

imgPros
img*Storage of water under pressure allows for less usage of motor
img
imgCons
img* Bladders may go bad and some are not replaceable. We stock both; the choice is up to the owner.
img* Need to put accurate pressure in the tank. If it's inaccurate there will be erratic operation.
img* Need a float switch

Are there any pumps suitable for saltwater use?
Yes. The pump housings are usually constructed of plastic or stainless steel & the mechanical seal is capable of handling the abrasiveness of salt water.

What size plumbing should I use for the inlet of my water pump?
The plumbing leading to your pump must match the inlet size of the pump.

What is the function of a check valve on the inlet of the pump?
The check valve prevents the water pressure stored in the pressure tank from going back into the water tank.

What should I do if I get hot water in my cold-water faucet?
Check your water pump to see if it is running continuously & no one is using water. If it is, turn the pump off and call The Water Source at (868) 674-TANK

Why would my pump continue running and not switch off?

This could be due to a number of reasons:
img* Pressure switch needs servicing
img* Leaking faucet
img* Insufficient pressure to deactivate the pressure switch
img* Pump is wired incorrectly
