What are aerobic treatment systems?

Aerobic systems are used in situations where standard septic systems are not a viable option or in many cases, to replace failing septic systems. Both the aerobic and anaerobic (septic) systems rely on bacteria to treat wastewater, however aerobic systems require oxygen for effective breakdown to occur. Two types of bacteria are responsible for breakdown: anaerobic (uses no oxygen) and aerobic (uses oxygen). Generally, the rate at which breakdown occurs by aerobic bacteria is much higher than anaerobic bacteria and this rate is increased by introducing more oxygen into the system. The ECO-SPHERE aerobic treatment unit ensures a higher standard of treatment to wastewater by injecting air into a continuously circulating body of water inside the tank. This aeration is achieved through the use of a linear air pump and diffusers. Once treated, the effluent is clear and odorless and must be directed into the soil, chlorinator or UV light.

How the aerobic treatment unit works

  1. Effluent from the septic tank enters the treatment tank (digester).
  2. The air pump and diffuser produces bubbles which supplies oxygen to promote bacterial growth and ensure circulation.
  3. Bacteria treat the effluent by digesting fine suspended solids in the presence of sufficient oxygen.
  4. Whatever solids remain become odorless and should be pumped out periodically.
  5. Effluent should be directed into a soil absorption or disinfection system.

Features

  1. Wide base for stability, ease of handling and storage
  2. Powered by small, silent linear air pump
  3. Convenient size uses less space than conventional systems
  4. Reduces the size of leaching fields
  5. Manufactured from impact- resistant prime grade polyethylene
  6. Spherical design ensures exceptional strength
  7. Treats effluent so it can safely enter the environment.

Components

The Aerobic Treatment Unit consists of:

  1. Treatment tank
  2. Linear air pump
  3. Diffuser
  4. Plumbing / Fittings
  5. Riser (optional)

Installation

Aerobic treatment units can be installed above or below ground and may require electrical connections, additional excavation, installation of pretreatment / final treatment components and access for maintenance.
